Frequative support

Answers to the things that go wrong most often, and a direct line to us when they do not cover it.

What to include

Telling us these four things up front usually saves a round trip:

  • Device make and model
  • Android version
  • What you did and what happened
  • For purchase issues: the Google Play order number

Frequative Pro purchases

I paid for Pro but the features are still locked

Pro unlocks from the entitlement Google Play reports for your account. When it does not appear, the cause is almost always one of these:

  • Wrong Google account. Check that the account signed in to the Play Store on the device is the account that bought the subscription. Play subscriptions do not transfer between accounts.
  • The purchase has not finished processing. Some payment methods take time to clear, and slow or offline connections delay it further. Open the app while online and give it a moment.
  • Stale entitlement state. Force-close Frequative and reopen it so it re-checks with Google Play.
  • Play Store cache. In Android Settings → Apps → Google Play Store, clear the cache, then reopen Frequative.

If Pro is still locked after all of that, email us with your Google Play order number and we will look into it.

Restoring Pro on a new or reset device

There is nothing to restore manually and no code to enter. Sign in to the same Google account, install Frequative from Google Play, and open it while online — the app re-checks your entitlement with Google Play and unlocks Pro.

If it does not unlock, work through the checks above first.

Managing or cancelling your subscription

Subscriptions are managed by Google, not inside Frequative:

  • Open the Google Play Store app.
  • Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptionsSubscriptions.
  • Select Frequative to change your plan or cancel.

Cancelling stops future renewals. Pro features stay available until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Refunds

Refunds for Play purchases are handled by Google under Google Play's refund policy, and by any statutory rights you have. Request one through your Play order history. If something went wrong on our side, tell us and we will help where we can.

Using the app

System Audio is unavailable or greyed out

System Audio uses Android's playback-capture API, and the platform decides when it can be used:

  • It requires a supported device on Android 10 or newer.
  • Android shows a media-projection consent prompt before capture starts. Capture cannot begin if that prompt is declined.
  • Individual apps and certain protected audio streams can opt out of capture at the platform level. Where Android will not provide the stream, Frequative reports that rather than quietly switching to the microphone.
  • System Audio is a Frequative Pro feature.

The microphone shows nothing

  • Check that Frequative has microphone permission in Android Settings → Apps → Frequative → Permissions.
  • Close other apps that may be holding the microphone — some capture it exclusively.
  • Check that nothing is physically covering the microphone, including a case.
  • If the signal is present but very low, raise the source level or adjust the frequency range and smoothing.

Readings differ from another device or another app

This is expected. Frequative reports levels relative to the Android audio pipeline and the microphone hardware in your specific device, which differs between models. It is not a calibrated sound level meter and does not report calibrated SPL. Use it for relative comparison — which is exactly what Reference and Delta are for.

Session History only shows some of my sessions

Without Pro, History gives you access to your ten most recent sessions. Frequative Pro raises that to up to 50 stored sessions.

Finding a CSV export

Exports are written to the location you choose when you export. If you cannot find one, check your device's Downloads folder or recent files, and search for the file name shown when the export completed.

Reporting a bug

Bug reports are genuinely useful to us. Please include your device model, Android version, the audio source in use (microphone or System Audio), what you expected, and what happened instead. Reliable reproduction steps help most of all.

Privacy and legal

How Frequative handles audio and data is set out in the privacy policy. The terms the app is provided under are in the terms of use.
